Newstalk presenter Kieran Cuddihy to take over as RTÉ Liveline presenter
Broadcaster Kieran Cuddihy is has left to join .
Staff at were informed of his departure on Thursday night, with an internal email from senior management announcing that Thursday’s edition of was his final show.
He takes over the Liveline show from Joe Duffy, who retired earlier this year.
Mr Cuddihy has been a key voice at since joining the station in 2011, taking over as presenter of , its flagship daily news and current affairs programme, in 2020.
In addition to his radio work, Mr Cuddihy has presented on since February and recently moderated the first broadcast presidential debate on the station.
The move comes just hours after confirmed that long-time presenter Ray D’Arcy is leaving his weekday afternoon slot on after 11 years.
The station on Friday confirmed an overhaul of the programme schedule on RTÉ Radio 1 for later this year.
A new Today with David McCullagh will run from 9am, with Oliver Callan moving to a longer time slot at 11am until 1pm.
Rachael English will continue to present News at One, every lunchtime, before handing on to Liveline with Kieran Cuddihy from 1.45 pm.
Louise Duffy will take the 3pm slot for her one-hour show, followed by Katie Hannon and Colm Ó Mongáin on Drivetime from the earlier time of 4pm.
Two new presenters will join Morning Ireland, but RTÉ said they will be announced in the coming weeks.
According to RTÉ’s Director of Audio, Patricia Monahan: “This new schedule marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for RTÉ Radio 1.
"I’m also pleased to confirm that Sarah McInerney and Cormac Ó hEadhra will continue to be a regular presence on RTÉ and Radio 1. We look forward to sharing news of their new roles in the coming weeks.”
