Westport road is 'serious hazard for pedestrians'
Cllr Peter Flynn raised the issue.
A Westport councillor has called on Mayo County Council to deliver a footpath at the Railway Bridge and further along the Ballinrobe Road in the town.
Cllr Peter Flynn noted that the location has "become a serious hazard for pedestrians".
The Fine Gael councillor raised the issue at last month's meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District, noting that he had walked the route himself recently.
"How I wasn’t killed I will never know, between the verges growing out and all the traffic coming through there.”
Addressing council management, he stated: “Can I ask for a report on options as to how we can deliver a footpath out of town there because landowners are more than happy to cooperate. We can’t wait for an Active Travel project to be sanctioned. People are taking their life in their hands.”
