A passenger shelter has been confirmed for a train station in Mayo.

Posting on social media, Senator Mark Duffy confirmed the news for Manulla Junction, by saying: "Delighted to confirm that following consistent representations, Irish Rail have confirmed to me today at the Joint Oireachtas Committee for Transport that a passenger shelter will be created on Manulla Junction before winter this year to protect Mayo commuters from the elements of wind and rain.

"Thank you to the many who have contacted me on this issue, and my thanks to Mary Considine of Irish Rail for her efforts and commitment today.

"As rail passengers continue to increase, I welcome improvements like this that make it more attractive to use rail."
