Duffy welcomes long-awaited Mayo rail facility

Senator Mark Duffy

Fine Gael Senator Mark Duffy has welcomed confirmation from Irish Rail that a new passenger shelter will be installed at Manulla Junction before winter this year.

Senator Duffy said he had made "sustained representations" on behalf of local commuters, who have long been exposed to the elements while waiting at the junction. The new shelter will provide vital protection from wind and rain for Mayo rail passengers.

Speaking following the confirmation at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Senator Duffy said he was delighted to learn of the news about the shelter.

"I want to thank everyone who contacted me about this issue and pay particular tribute to Mary Considine of Irish Rail for her efforts and commitment.

"As rail passenger numbers continue to grow, improvements like this make rail travel more attractive and comfortable for commuters across Mayo.”

The development represents a practical win for local transport infrastructure and is expected to benefit hundreds of daily users of the station.
