Visitors to Knock Shrine benefit from public Wifi service

A programme to roll out public WiFi in Mayo towns has enjoyed great success among tourists.

According to Mayo County Council’s Broadband Officer Danny O’Toole, the WiFi4EU programme, first introduced in 2020, has had a big uptake among visitors to the county.

“The uptake is tourism-related," he told a meeting of the council's Economic Development strategic policy committee (SPC). "The public WiFi in Knock gets lots of use because it has a lot of international visitors."

However, Mr O'Toole also noted that the new service is not attracting as much use as when it was first introduced.
