Two housing projects get the go-ahead in Mayo

Planning has been approved for two new housing developments in Mayo.

Two housing developments in South and East Mayo have been granted planning permission by Mayo County Council.

The local authority has given the green light to a 21-unit housing development at Lower James Street, Claremorris.

The project will consist of 12 three-bedroom houses and nine two-bedroom homes. The development will also include new vehicular and pedestrian site access and connection to public services along with all ancillary site works.

Planning has been granted subject to 26 conditions. There were several submissions on the development with concerns raised about aspects of the proposal.

Concerns were raised about traffic congestion, loss of green space, noise pollution, environmental impact, and a lack of infrastructure. A representation advocating for the project was also made to the council where the need for housing in the area was raised.

Meanwhile, a 16-home development has been approved in Charlestown, subject to 23 conditions. Planning permission has been granted for the housing project at Laveybeg. It is anticipated that construction on the development will take around 22 months to complete.
