Tidy Towns group unveils stunning mural in Mayo town

The hard-working committee of Newport Tidy Towns was thrilled last week to unveil its new River to Sea mural in the local playground.
The committee is dedicated to keeping the entire town looking beautiful and is always coming up with creative ways to improve Newport. Engaging the talents of local artist Manual Santiago to tell the story through art, the committee has named the mural 'From the River to the Sea, a tale of two worlds, On Abhainn go farraigh, sceal dha domhain'.
The panels detail the sea life that runs through the Black Oak River as it journeys through Newport and out to Clew Bay. Extensive research went into identifying the wildlife that inhibits the sea and each creature is named on the boards in both English and Irish. Painstakingly installed by Rick, Fran and Ged who spent two days in "random" weather conditions erecting it, the mural will bring more colour and learnings for the many families that visit the playground every year.
The committee extends thanks to Chris Harper of mysign.ie who produced the panels and was invaluable offering his advice and support.
