Sligo Fianna Fáil councillor Paul Taylor is targeting re-election on June 7.
Taylor, who is widely known for his talent on the football pitch, has gained vast experience through the years - from managing his county to being named Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council in 2021.
“It has been an honour and pleasure to serve the people of south-east and west Sligo over the past ten years,” Taylor told the Western People.
“I have enjoyed it and I have embraced the work that it entails. I feel it is very important to have a local representative in the area.” If re-elected, Taylor’s objectives include bringing funding to local areas, including the improvement of road surfaces in rural areas.
“I have always been an advocate for funding for our road network and public transport services. Another concern amongst the public is their concerns over speeding in our towns and villages - this is another important issue,” Taylor stated.
Childcare has also been another topic of conversation during Taylor’s canvassing and he wants to work on improving that matter.
“I endorse grants for community facilities because of my background in a range of sports,” Taylor added.
“We need the facilities in our towns and villages to make those places appealing for young people to live in as we have had a lot of emigration in recent years.” Taylor, now in his third election, said it has been his busiest year with the key June date edging closer.
“People in this county are a pleasure to work with,” Taylor said.
“I have been lucky over the past 20 or 30 years that I have got to represent my county in various ways. I appreciate the people I have met and the respect they have shown me.
“No seat is ever safe in an election, so it is important that people go out and vote on June 7 so I can continue to work and fight to bring funding to the area.”
