The number of taxis Mayo has declined by almost one-fifth during the past five years and since the pandemic, according to new National Transport Authority figures.
The figures showed a considerable variation between rural and urban areas with the reduction in taxis in Mayo over 18%.
There was a significant fall in taxis across the west with taxi numbers plummeting by 19% in Roscommon, 10% in Sligo and down by 5% in Galway since 2019.
The number of taxis fell in most regions in Ireland and taxi licence numbers dropped in 23 counties.
