Storm Isha claimed one life in the West on Sunday when a man died in a single-vehicle accident in South Mayo.

The incident occurred shortly before 6.15pm on the N17 at Lisduff, Claremorris.

The driver and sole occupant of the car involved in this collision was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been named locally as Jimmy Rowe. The Ballymahon, Co Longford native, who was in his 40s, lived in Tuam. He had been driving back to Tuam when he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road.

The N17 at Lisduff was closed overnight and the services of forensic collision investigators were requested. Local diversions were in place through Ballindine and Claremorris. The road has since re-opened.

Sadly missed by his loving mother Catherine, partner Berney, daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, stepfather, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, and friends.

Jimmy will repose tomorrow in Tuam from 5pm to 8pm. He will repose on Thursday in Ballymahon from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass is Friday at noon in St Matthew's Church, Ballymahon. Burial in Shrule Cemetery.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward, especially if they have camera footage (including dash-cam).
