Spate of water issues at Mayo location

Repairs being carried out at the site.

A Mayo councillor is demanding answers following a spate of burst water pipes.

Cllr Ger Deere has said he has contacted Uisce Éireann in a bid to ascertain the reasons behind the issues in the Moneen and Breaffy Road areas of Castlebar.

He said there were three bursts in the space of a week, leaving hundreds of households and businesses without water.

“Clarity needs to be given as to what is causing such frequent bursts and what steps are being taken to find a permanent solution to solve the issue. We have a large number of industries in that particular area and they rely on good quality and secure water supply to operate," said Cllr Deere.

The most recent burst at the location occurred last Tuesday with repairs carried out and supply returned by the afternoon. The N5 Business Park, Cedar House, Roadstone and the Castlebar Primary Care Centre were among the premises impacted.
