Some areas still without telephone service four weeks after Storm Isha

Cllr Damien Ryan wants Eir to send a representative to Mayo County Council's next meeting.
Members of Mayo County Council want Eir to send a representative to the council's next meeting.
Ballinrobe-based Cllr Damien Ryan raised the issue last week and criticised the service people are getting from Eir.
“We had a huge storm here on January 21," he said, referring to Storm Isha, "and there are still people without services.
"But it is worse than that because we have had poles lying out across roads around this county,” he added.
Cllr Ryan said it is vitally important that the council make contact with Eir, adding that the telecommunications company needs to employ a regional representative as it is currently "not possible" to make a complaint.
“All that is holding the lines up is cables dangling from trees," he said. "It is not the responsibility of our engineers to do the work for Eir.
"I have examples where the lines have come down and there is no service 28 days later. It is not acceptable.”
Achill Cllr Paul McNamara and Erris Cllr Gerry Coyle said the level of service from Eir is "shocking" and "there are wires that resemble clotheslines" in their areas.
