Serious weather event had big impact on Mayo town

A local councillor has said a recent spell of incremental weather in Kiltimagh highlighted issues with the town’s stormwater capacity.
Cllr Adrian Forkan said on Sunday, July 13, the weather broke after an extended period of sunshine and the resulting rain flooded the Main Street of the town within an hour and a half.
He said several businesses experienced some level of flooding, with one hairdresser getting completely flooded, and said there was a clear capacity issue with stormwater and Kiltimagh’s sewerage treatment.
“We cannot have stormwater and sewerage mixing,” he said.
“The money needs to be found somewhere to remedy this.”
Cllr Neil Cruise said this issue had come up with Kiltimagh before and the town had a combined system.
