The Cathaoirleach of the Ballina Municipal District has urged anyone with any information regarding the disappearance and murder of Sandra Collins to come forward.
Cllr Jarlath Munnelly made his appeal at the December meeting of Ballina Municipal District. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sandra's disappearance.
She was aged 29 when she disappeared on December 4, 2000, in Killala, having been last seen at approximately 11pm at the Country Kitchen take-away on George’s Street. At the time, she was wearing black boots, black pants, a beige sleeveless top and a maroon/beige sleeveless fleece jacket.
Four days later, her fleece was found on the pier in Killala. A half pound of sausages that Sandra bought in the shop on the day of her disappearance were still in the pocket of the fleece. It is believed that Sandra was abducted and murdered.
During his closing address at the council meeting, Cllr Munnelly said he wished to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of Sandra's disappearance and said her family just wants closure.
“I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact the Gardaí - you will be treated with confidence,” he said. “Sandra’s family just wants closure and to give her a proper burial.”
Anyone who knows anything about Sandra’s disappearance and death is asked to please contact Ballina Garda Station on 096-20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
