Councillors in the Ballina Municipal District have approved the sale of the former Crossmolina Fire Station.

The property, located on Ballina Street, was originally a townhouse with a garage that was later converted into a fire station and a garage/warehouse, known locally as Judge’s Garage.

The building was valued at €145,000 and that is the agreed sale price between Mayo County Council and Mulhern Civil Engineering, which is the purchaser on behalf of the Dolphin Hotel in Crossmolina.

Cllr Michael Loftus welcomed the sale of the old fire station and the opening of the new Crossmolina Fire Station, a state-of-the-art facility costing €2.5 million.

“It is so important to us in the town with the potential we have for flood risk,” he said.

The sale of the former fire station will now come before the main meeting of Mayo County Council on Monday, November 13, for final local authority approval.
