Safety works on road in North Mayo

The eight "very dangerous" locations on the N59 where work is to take place.
A local councillor says he is hopeful that works will soon begin along the N59 Ballina to Crossmolina Road,
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has highlighted multiple "very dangerous" locations on the busy route in a recent safety survey.
Fine Gael Cllr John O’Hara said he has repeatedly called for action on the N59 road where fast-flowing traffic has created difficulties for motorists exiting junctions.
“This dangerous situation was highlighted to me by the residents living in these locations," Cllr O'Hara explained. "I brought this as a motion into a municipal district meeting and it was then brought to the attention of TII, which agreed to carry out a survey. It highlighted eight locations as being very dangerous and identified them as locations to carry out health and safety measures at.”
The eight locations can be seen on the map above. Cllr O’Hara said Mayo Co Council will need to engage with local landowners for the purpose of land acquisition for these works.
“I am hoping that work can begin in the next few months. This will require landowners to allocate small amounts of ground to make those locations safe to enter and exit,” he said.
