Sadness in Ballina at passing of well-known businesswoman

The late Carmel Byrne established Carmel's Fashion's on Garden Street in Ballina in 1976.

The death has occurred of the founder of one of Ballina’s best-known businesses.

Carmel Byrne (née Clarke) of Shanaghy, Ballina and formerly of Kilbeg, Claremorris, passed peacefully on Thursday at the Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Castlebar, surrounded by her loving family.

Carmel established Carmel's Fashion's on Garden Street in Ballina in 1976 and to this day the high-end ladies outfitters remains one of the town’s best-established businesses.

Carmel, the beloved wife of Ted and loving mother of Edward (Galway), Fiona (Ballina) and Rachel (Dublin), was predeceased by her parents William and Mary, her brother Liam and sister Eithne.

She will repose in McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina on Sunday from 7pm with removal at 9pm to St Muredach's Cathedral. Requiem Mass is at 1:30pm on Monday followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
