Sadness following passing of well-known Castlebar auctioneer

Well-known auctioneer Thomas 'Tom' Collins of Mallard Lodge, Newport Road, Castlebar passed away over the weekend
The death has taken place of well-known Castlebar auctioneer Thomas ‘Tom’ Collins, Mallard Lodge, Newport Road, Castlebar and formerly of Castle Street, Castlebar.
Tom, in his early 60s, died suddenly at his home on Sunday morning and his passing has evoked a huge sense of loss in the local community where he and his well-respected family were held in the highest regard.
Tom worked for and was a dedicated member of the Mayo fire services for 15 years.
He set up Collins Estates Agents on Castle Street in 1986 and was elected president of the Institute of Auctioneers in 1996. Tom also served as a Commissioner of Oaths. He took over the running of his Collins Music Shop on Castle Street following the passing of his mother Tess in 2019.
Tom was a member of Fine Gael for many years and ran as a candidate in the local elections in 1993. He had a keen interest in the life and achievements of legendary Irish figure Michael Collins.
Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Tess, Tom will be sadly missed by his wife Anne and three children Jack, Ruth and Alexandra, his sister Mary McDonnell, brothers-in-law, Gerry Cullen, Con Cullen and Stephen McDonnell, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposing at his home at Mallard Lodge , Newport Road,Castlebar, (F23 DR60) on Wednesday from 5 until 8 o clock, house private at all other times Removal from his residence on Thursday at 12 noon for requiem mass at 1 pm in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
