There is great sadness in north Mayo soccer circles following the passing of Killala FC club stalwart Jonathon (Jonny) Cuffe.

Jonny was involved with Killala FC for many years and was one of their most prolific goalscorers, playing at every age level. He also represented his county in soccer at all levels.

"His proudest moment representing the club came in 2010 when he received the prize for Killala FC winning the FAI club of the month at the FAI HQ in Abbotstown from the then President of the FAI the late David Blood."

“We will always remember his cameo in the last game away to Urlaur Utd when , with the 3 points secured and the title in the bag, he donned the yellow jersey for the last time and played out the final 10 minutes of the game,” they said.

“He will be sadly missed as his passion will be for his other two football loves Celtic and Manchester Utd. All at the club convey deepest condolences to his mother Patsy, family and friends.”

Jonny will be reposing at Lynn’s Funeral Home, Killala from 5.30pm to 7.30pm this evening. Removal to St Patrick’s Church, Killala for prayers and funeral mass on Saturday at 2pm.
