Public urged to come and have their say on Ballina project

The old Garda Barracks on Walsh St, Ballina
Members of the public are encouraged to have their say about the renovation of the Old Garda Barracks on Walsh Street in Ballina at a workshop taking place this week.
Head of the Ballina Municipal District Declan Turnbull told councillors at the recent municipal district meeting that funding of €200,000 had been received under the THRIVE scheme for the regeneration of the building.
Castlebar-based Taylor McCarney Architects have been contracted as consultants to start planning and designing the next phase.
The project is currently at the consultation phase and Mr Turnbull is hopeful the council can progress it to a point where they can apply for Strand 2 funding under THRIVE in the new year.
Fine Gael Cllr John O’Hara welcomed the update.
“It is great to see something happening with this and it will be a community hub for the whole town,” he said.
Fine Gael Cllr Jarlath Munnelly said it was a good example of where European Union funding can make a difference to a local area.
A workshop will take place at the Ballina Civic Offices this Wednesday from 2 to 4pm and from 5 to 7pm. Representatives of Taylor McCarney will be present to discuss the project and all feedback is welcome, with a focus on themes of culture, arts, community engagement and future needs.
