Proposal for extra spaces at Ballina car park
Cllr John O'Hara raised the issue.
A meeting is to be facilitated with the owner of a site adjoining Diamond's Car Park in Ballina to discuss the potential to provide up to 50 additional parking spaces.
Cllr John O’Hara raised the issue again at the October meeting of Ballina Municipal District, following a motion he tabled last month that called for additional parking in Ballina to help support local businesses and encourage shoppers to keep coming into town.
Cllr O’Hara said he had been in talks with the owner after he enquired about the possibility of leasing the vacant space or working with Mayo County Council to make it available for public parking.
“There is a vacant site in Diamond's Car Park, you could get 50 car parking spaces coming out of Diamond's. It would help the businesses in town if something could be done with it,” he said.
Head of Ballina Municipal District Anna Connor said she would facilitate a meeting with the property owner.
