Progress update on lighting schemes in Ballina

A local councillor has welcomed progress on a number of public lighting schemes in various parts of Ballina in recent weeks.

Cllr Mark Duffy made an investment of €12,000 from his discretionary fund for the installation of 12 new public street lights in the town. He says these lights will address a number of black spots and safety concerns.

Five lights went live last Tuesday evening in the Belleek area, which Cllr Duffy says will improve safety for users of the athletics track, Belleek Woods and the Ballina Town Football Club Grounds, as well as the staff of the Connacht Whiskey Distillery.

Two lights were recently installed at Libradore, which address two black spots that Cllr Duffy said were brought to his attention by local residents during the local elections canvass in June. Five more lights were installed earlier this year from Cllr Duffy’s fund at the Newlands Road, off the Killala Road, where he said residents had been left in the dark.

“I encourage residents to get in touch with new lighting requests which I will try and support with funding in 2025,” said Cllr Duffy. “I’d like to thank Electric Skyline and Mayo County Council who installed the lights at my request on behalf of the residents in these areas.”
