Pontoon plans for Kilcummin Pier

A councillor has called for plans for a pontoon at Kilcummin Pier in North Mayo to be considered and for the ownership of the pier to be clarified.
Speaking at the October meeting of Mayo County Council's Enterprise and Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee, Cllr Michael Loftus noted the high level of activity going on at Kilcummin Pier, and said measures were needed to ensure the pier is suitable for those using it.
“It is quite important that something is done with Kilcummin Pier because it is getting an awful lot of action."
Cllr Loftus also called for questions around ownership of the land to be resolved and a timeframe put in place, saying the confusion was holding up plans to install eco toilets at Kilcummin.
“The ownership has to be looked at sooner rather than later because we are looking to install eco toilets there," he said. “We need permission from the landowners, but if we are the landowners then it needs to be sorted out. I hear it is with the solicitor, but it needs a timeframe to be put on it, and it needs to be done."
