Councillor seeks update on Blueway
The Blueway would connect several waterways, including Lough Conn.
A local councillor has criticised the fact that no landing point has been designated in Foxford for the Blueway - a local waterways tourist trail - despite the fact one was expected ten years ago.
Fine Gael Cllr Neil Cruise raised the issue at the October meeting of Mayo County Council, noting that the "greenway on water" would link Castlebar, Ballina and Swinford-Claremorris municipal districts.
"Monies were granted for works at the different bays on Loughs Conn and Cullen, but ten years later there is still no landing point in Foxford. It is shocking.”
The council's Director of Services Tom Gilligan offered reassurance that planning documentation is now complete for the Blueway landing point and will come before the council in November.
