Mayo County Council has approved the construction of a new commercial development in Achill Sound.
The project will see the demolition of long-standing business premises in order to pave the way for the new development.
Mayo County Council has granted planning permission to Achill businessman, Kieran Sweeney, for the demolition of the existing Kieran Sweeney Crafts & Knitwear building in Achill Sound to be replaced by a new building. The new premises will consist of two ground-floor commercial units and three two-bedroom apartments with connection to existing services.
The application was submitted to Mayo County Council in April by Masterson Design Ltd on behalf of Mr Sweeney and was granted planning permission last week.
Each of the ground-floor commercial units will be 39.27 square metres while two of the apartments will be 68.59 square metres and the other first-floor apartment will be slightly larger at 79.85 square metres.
The new development is expected to have a transformative impact on the streetscape of the village.
