Pedestrian bridge gets go-ahead in Mayo town

Works on a pedestrian bridge in Ballinrobe are expected to begin next year.
Councillors in the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District approved at last week's monthly meeting the proposed N84 Fire Station Bridge Pedestrian Improvements Scheme at Cornaroya and Knockfereen, Ballinrobe.
The scheme will consist of the construction of new footpaths on both sides of the Kilmaine Road across the existing Fire Station Bridge.
The works will involve extending the existing southwest footpath to tie in with the southern footpath of New Line Road with reconstruction of the bridge parapet at the location.
The new eastern footpath comprises the widening of the existing bridge with a new 2.5m-wide footpath to tie into the existing northern footpath on Station Road. Existing commercial entrances northeast of the bridge will also be widened.
Cllrs Damien Ryan, Patsy O’Brien and Michael Burke all welcomed the progress on these works, which are expected to begin construction in 2026.
