Mayo's Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) is hosting an information evening on Friday, January 26th, in the TF Royal Hotel, Casltebar, commencing at 7pm.

Áine Treanor, Co-Chair of Galway IPSC, will be making a presentation on the evening about her experiences of her recent time spent in Palestine.

In 2022, Áine spent three months in the West Bank as a human rights monitor. During her time there, she says she witnessed "housing demolitions, extreme military control and an apartheid system facing Palestinians living under military occupation". In her testimony, Áine tells the story of a rural community threatened with the expansion of an illegal Israeli settlement, the violence and harassment they face by both settlers and Israeli soldiers, and the women shepherds who are fighting for their livelihoods and their right to exist.

Éadaoin DeFaoite, Chair of Mayo IPSC, said: "We really encourage people to come along to this event to gain a deeper understanding of the human rights' abuses endured by the Palestinian people under ongoing Israeli occupation. Irish people have a deep affinity with the Palestinian people and we urge everyone to get involved with our local group."

Éadaoin added: "In light of the ongoing military assaults in the Gaza Strip, which have left over 23,000 Palestinians dead, more than 7,000 people buried in the rubble, over 60,000 people wounded and 1.9 million displaced, we need to be doing all we can to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine."

This is a free event and if people would like more information they can contact the Mayo branch of the IPSC via email at ipsc.mayo@gmail.com.
