O'Malley is glad to see back of Green Party

A Westport councillor has expressed satisfaction that the Green Party managed to only get one of its 12 outgoing TDs returned at the last general election and no new candidates elected.
Commenting at the meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District recently on the issues of rivers flooding and overhanging trees on roads, Westport-based Independent Cllr John O’Malley said: “Thanks be to God the Greens are gone. There’s one left and I wish he was gone because when John Gormley was in it he destroyed the place and rural Ireland. Then he got a kick and was thrown out, and then Eamonn Ryan got in and he built [the Green Party] and again it was destroyed and I hope the people of Ireland won’t make the mistake to let them get back in again."
Cllr O'Malley was particularly critical of outgoing Minister of Transport Eamonn Ryan's policy on carbon tax.
"He [Eamonn Ryan] put two rounds of carbon tax on petrol and diesel and now it is going up again and I would be on to the Government to take that down. They put a carbon tax on everything to heat a property and old people now can hardly afford to heat their homes because of this. So I am glad they are gone because we should not be getting any more carbon taxes now," Cllr O'Malley concluded.
