Notorious Ballina traffic 'blackspot' to be tackled in the coming weeks

A traffic visibility ‘blackspot’ in Ballina is to be addressed in the coming weeks.

Cllr Mark Duffy put forward a notice of motion at last week's meeting of the municipal district calling for yellow lines to be installed at the junction of James Connolly Street and Kevin Barry Street near Vincy’s Pub.

He said this would improve road safety and visibility for motorists exiting that junction.

“It is a blackspot because of cars being pulled up on Kevin Barry Street. If a yellow line could be put there, it would improve road safety and visibility as those exiting onto the N26 would have a safe view of oncoming traffic,” he said.

In response to the motion, municipal district engineer Orla Bourke said that the location is earmarked for double yellow lines in the upcoming marking schedule. The line-marking contractor is due to return to Ballina in the coming weeks to refresh all line markings.

Ms Bourke added that she would arrange for the local traffic warden to include this area in their daily patrol.
