A rare earthquake shook the New York City metropolitan area this morning.

The US Geological survey reported a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 with an epicentre in New Jersey.

An earthquake measuring between 4 and 4.9 on the Richter Scale is considered a minor quake that can be felt but generally causes no damage. The extent of the damage from this earthquake was not immediately clear and assessments are currently being carried out.

There is currently a large contingent of Mayo supporters in the Big Apple for Sunday’s big Connacht Championship clash with New York.
