The Foxford & District Alzheimer Trust (FACT) will be moving into their new purpose-built Club House by the end of August 2025.

The expansion into the new facility will allow FACT Social Club to increase the number of individuals they can support, enhancing their programs and resources.

FACT Dementia Mile, The Longest Day Walk, Dementia Awareness Campaign held in June 21, highlighted the critical need for services that support individuals with dementia and those experiencing rural isolation in the county. As part of the event, locals had an opportunity to look at the work that has been carried out at FACT Social Club’s new clubhouse in Foxford ahead of their move at the end of August.

FACT Social Clubs manager Declan Howley said the importance of their services cannot be overstated.

“As the only service of its kind operating five days a week, with our bus operating where possible, we play a unique role in championing community inclusion, engagement and support for this vulnerable population,” he said.

“Community inclusion fosters a sense of belonging and reduces the stigma often associated with dementia. By engaging with our local community, we can ensure that those affected feel understood and valued. Our work goes beyond just providing care; it’s about creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive despite their diagnosis.

“We welcome all fundraisers, donations and volunteers. Your contributions will be invested directly into the care and support our community deserves. It’s important to recognise that all funding stays local, directly benefiting the individuals and families in County Mayo,” he said.

“Everyone deserves the best quality of life following a diagnosis and dementia is no exception. By understanding the importance of our care provision, we can collectively ensure that those affected by dementia, as well as their families, receive the support and compassion they need,” he added.

Mr Howley said the services wanted to thank their main sponsor, Michael Carr Foods, as well as all other sponsors, staff, board of directors, volunteers, club members and families for their support in June as these events would not be manageable without the continued support they receive year on year.

FACT were established in 2012 by Trust Founder Frances Casey-Maloney and supported by Board Members Yvonne C. Loftus, Martin Quinn, James Maloney and Anthony Ruane.
