New access road for cemetery near notorious bend

Bohola Cemetery
Planning approval has been granted by councillors in the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District for the development of a new road entering Bohola Cemetery.
The proposal, which came before last week’s area meeting, consists of a new roadway, parking spaces, boundary treatment, internal footpaths and landscaping at Barleyhill, Bohola.
Kiltimagh-based Cllr Adrian Forkan proposed adopting the proposal and said the current access to and parking at the cemetery is not adequate, especially when there is a funeral taking place.
“There is a 90 degree bend approaching the cemetery. It is near impossible at funeral times and there is a gradient on the hill that makes it difficult for undertakers to access the grounds and for elderly people,” he said. “This work will bring a new roadway and access from the other side. It is no more than the people of Bohola deserve.”
Cllr Forkan added that he wished to thank the Deacy family who gifted the land to the council for these works.
Cllr John Caulfield seconded the proposal and said it was very welcome news.
“This cemetery is located on a dangerous bend on the Bohola to Ballina road and I’m glad to see these works will be carried out. From a health and safety point of view, it is a worthy project,” he said.
