'Mysterious' Mayo street sweeper

The long-running saga of the 'mysterious' Castlebar street sweeper has taken a fresh turn. The sweeper was bought during the days of Castlebar Town Council but rarely saw the light of day.
It is believed the machine, which lay in 'sick bay' for a long period, may now have been auctioned off without approval from councillors.
"It’s an ongoing saga for a long number of years," Cllr Ger Deere told last week's municipal council meeting. "The mysterious street sweeper. It’s moved from the sick bay, I believe. It’s probably gone into long-term care now.
"This is a proper joke. We never seemed to see the new street sweeper that was built for Castlebar a number of years ago. We are now hiring one out I believe for a large amount of money."
Cllr Deere said he believes the sweeper was recently sold at auction for little or no money.
"You can’t dispose of an asset without our approval," remarked an incredulous Cllr Michael Kilcoyne.
