A mult-million euro tender on the old Castlebar Post Office has been approved.

Minister of State with Responsibility for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon TD, has confirmed that construction tender for the redevelopment of the old post office in Castlebar is due to be approved with officials this week.

The Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) project is seeking to convert the property into a new community youth resource centre.

It has been progressing as a single building project, led by Mayo County Council.

The multimillion-euro development is a key priority for the Castlebar based TD who has lobbied for investment for the town since been elected in February 2020.

Minister Dillon welcomed the news. “Following discussions within my department, I am delighted to see this important project for Castlebar finally at a stage where we can proceed to awarding the tender, all documents have been approved and we will receive final approval in the coming days.

‘We urgently need more facilities for young people, and I’m excited to see this project come to fruition, with the old post office being transformed into a new community youth resource centre,” concluded Minister Dillon.
