Much-needed Mayo roadworks project yet to be funded

A local councillor has said that works have to start at the Neale crossroads because of the safety risks at this location.

Cllr Damien Ryan sought an update at last week’s Claremorris Municipal District meeting regarding an application for junction improvements at the Neale crossroads.

In response, area engineer Conrad Harley said a preliminary appraisal was previously submitted to the Department of Transport for this proposal, however, no funding has yet been allocated by the Department.

“I’m asking for this to be an absolute priority at this stage,” said Cllr Ryan.

“These things take time to it has to start,” he said.

Cllr Ryan also sought an update on works at Ballykine Crossroads. Mr Harley said substantial works had been already carried out at this location and funding was now being sought for the completion of the Ballykine project.
