Moy Canoe Club looks forward to its 39th year

The first meeting of Moy Canoe Club's new committee was held this week.

Now in its 39th year, Moy Canoe Club is one of the longest-established water-based clubs in Ballina and one of the oldest kayak clubs in Ireland.

This group of individuals will bring the club up to its 40th year, and during the next 12 months will bring past members and their families on a trip down memory lane on its social media platforms to relive their adventures, whilst also working with and supporting its 80-plus members to continue enjoying this wonderful sport. Members range in age from nine years upwards, with some members having kayaked for well over 30 years.

Kayaking has many disciplines from whitewater, polo, flatwater, sea kayaking, marathon, surf, wildwater, freestyle, Slalom, to ocean and much more.

In the past, Moy Canoe Club had one of Ireland's most successful polo teams and this year Ireland was represented at the Olympics with their Slalom team so who knows what the club could do in the next 40 years!

The new committee would love to hear from people who want to share their photos and stories of their time in the club and what they got up to.

This week's meeting was about setting out the committee's goals for the coming year and how best to serve the many varied needs of such a diverse group of kayakers.

Thank you to club member Gaye Keane for facilitating the meeting at Keane's Pub.
