Mayo village to bid fond farewell to priest who was a 'great friend'

A Thanksgiving and Farewell Mass will take place at the Fr Peyton Memorial Centre this Thursday in honour of the facility’s departing Director Emeritus.

Fr Steve Gibson has served as Director Emeritus at the Attymass centre for a number of years and will now return to the United States to Holy Cross House, Notre Dame.

Fr Steve has been a favourite of many visitors to the Fr Peyton Centre over the years with his kind words, great stories, sharp wit and steady presence making a big impact on many people. He has also become a part of the fabric of the local community and of the Fr Peyton Centre itself.

Bishop of the Diocese of Achonry Kevin Doran offered his best to Fr Steve ahead of his move.

“Fr Steve has been a great friend of the Diocese and has worked closely with the Diocesan clergy of Achonry for many years. Our prayers go with him and, almost certainly, many Rosaries will be prayed for his good health,” he said.

A Thanksgiving and Farewell Mass will take place at the Fr. Peyton Centre this Thursday, June 12 at 7.30pm, and all are welcome to attend.
