Eugene and Breda Delaney, on behalf of the Brickens Community, presenting €1,600 to Liam Cannon, Vice-Chair of the South Mayo Branch of MS Ireland. The presentation took place in Liam's fruit and vegetable shop in Castlebar.
A Tractor and Truck Run took place in Brickens on December 27th last, organised by the local community and spearheaded by Eoin Delaney.
More than 70 tractors and other assorted vehicles assembled at 4.30pm for the novel event, which raised €3,200 for two local charities - the South Mayo Branch of Multiple Sclerosis Ireland and Mayo Mental Health.
On Friday morning, January 10th, Breda and Eugene Delaney, representing the Brickens community, presented Liam Cannon, Vice-Chair of the South Mayo branch of MS Ireland with €1,600, their share of the funds raised. Liam thanked the Delaneys and the community of Brickens for their on-going support for people with MS in South Mayo, noting that this was not the first time that they had contributed to the local branch. Liam, who runs Cannon's Fruit and Vegetable Shop in Castlebar, is well-known for his great work on behalf of MS Ireland.
Tony Candon, chair of the MS Ireland branch in South Mayo, said: “Hundreds of people across South Mayo live with MS. We are very grateful to the people of Brickens for their generosity in helping us provide services to these people; without them, and other equally generous people throughout the area, we could not continue to do this.”
