Ethan Henry won the school aged category of the Night and Day 2024 song contest

A talented young Mayo singer-songwriter is celebrating winning a highly-respected song contest.

Ethan Henry, aged 17, from Tooreen, triumphed in the school aged category of the Night and Day 2024 competition when he sung "Lost in Space".

The teen, who began playing music about five years ago during a time when he was inspired by his father, impressed the judges with his ability.

Ethan's songwriting talent was ignited by a determination to be creative and forge connections with others.

After he was announced as the winner, Ethan said winning the competition "feels surreal".

The song contest supports independent artists by providing the resources so they can record their music and it also invites them to perform at the Night and Day Festival.

Ethan stated he is looking forward to having a studio for a day and starting the process of recording an album that he is hoping to release next year.

Night and Day is held in association with Soundcaster Studios and Paddy Jordan Recording.

The three-day camping festival will be held on the grounds of Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, County Roscommon from June 28 to June 30.

The singing contest is a well-known element of the events held prior to the event.

Meanwhile, Dublin act Dark Isle were named the overall winner with their song, "Shallow".
