Mayo publican raises almost €10k for charity
Castlebar publican Adrian Coady raised the money through his daily walks.
Well-known Castlebar publican Adrian Coady has raised close to €10,000 for the Jack and Jill Foundation.
The 82-year old walked 100km during the month of September in aid of the children’s foundation. His efforts saw him raise €9,595 for the organisation.
Adrian joined his local Life Pharmacy team to help support more than 500 families from across Ireland who are caring for children with severe learning disabilities, often associated with very complex medical needs.
Every €20 raised will fund one hour of in-home nursing and respite care. One hour that gives families the chance to rest, recharge or simply spend time together, knowing their child is being cared for by a Jack and Jill nurse or carer.
“I would try and get out walking every day anyway. It’s good for your health and it’s good for your head,” said Adrian, who is a familiar figure on his walks around Castlebar in all kinds of weather.
“It was my son Jarlath who put the idea in my head. He said you are out walking all the time so you are as well to do it,” Adrian told the .
Adrian said he was blown away by the support he received and the total raised.
“I just want to thank everyone who donated so generously,” he stated.
