A fundraiser has been launched for a Mayo woman and her husband as he faces life-saving surgery in London.

Ciara Griffin, originally from Swinford,  is currently facing an incredibly difficult time with her husband, Ben Hughes.

After almost 12 months in ICU, multiple induced comas and a serious deterioration in his health, Ben is now travelling to London to be assessed for potentially life-saving brain surgery.

Ben was diagnosed with epilepsy in his late teens and has suffered with debilitating seizures for the majority of his life.

His current diagnosis is a left-hand temporal lobe tumor that creates severe seizures that have required CPR to revive him.

In December 2025, his health took a serious downturn and he had to be air-lifted to Belfast Royal Victoria hospital. He spent Christmas 2025 in a coma, with Ciara by his side through-out.

In 2026, he has been back in ICU, on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma, on five separate occasions. His doctors fear the worst as his conditions deteriorates.

The funds raised will be used to cover living and accommodation expenses while Ciara is with Ben in London.
