Mayo motorist among over 550 caught speeding on Irish roads during National Slow Down Day

Examples of high speeds detected included a motorist driving 123km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N60 at Facefield, Co. Mayo.

An Garda Síochána, in partnership with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, were conducting a national speed enforcement operation - National #Slowdown Day – which ran for 24 hours from 12:00am to 11:59pm yesterday, Monday, 1st September 2025.

Yesterday's initiative aims to promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide, coinciding with the first full week of schools reopening across the country.

On National #Slowdown Day, members of An Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras, detected a total of 569 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
