Gardaí continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.

An Garda Síochána are conducting a 24-hour national speed enforcement operation, "Slow Down” supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders today, Monday 2nd September 2024.

Between 7am and 12pm, GoSafe checked the speeds of 29,729 vehicles and detected 72 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds include:

• 106km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R772 Clavass Enniscorthy Wexford 

• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N18 Ballinacurra (Weston) Limerick Limerick 

• 114km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N25 Lemybrien Waterford 

• 90km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the N2 Knockronaghan Emyvale Monaghan 

90km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R330 Drumminroe West Partry Mayo 

• 111km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N3 Lisgrea Virginia Cavan 

• 129km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass Westmeath
