Achill Island RNLI assisted two men on board a small open pleasure craft which was drifting off Old Head yesterday after they were alerted by the Irish Coast Guard that the vessel was in difficulty.
The all-weather lifeboat was launched shortly after 3pm and the Westport Coast Guard unit were also asked to help during the operation.
The drifting vessel was located around two miles east of Old Head and there was good visibility at the time.
Upon their arrival, the six man crew observed that the two men, who were wearing Personal Flotation Devices, were well.
A decision was reached a short time later for the Westport Coast Guard Delta to set-up a tow and pull the men and their small vessel back to Old Head, while the lifeboat remained on standby.
The two men were subsequently safely brought back to the Old Head shore.
