Man (30s) arrested following 'barricade' incident in Ballina last night

A man has been arrested after Gardaí resolved a 'barricade' incident in Ballina last night.

Yesterday evening, Thursday, 29th August, shortly after 6 p.m., Gardaí responded to an incident of criminal damage at a premises in Ballina town. Following this, an adult male barricaded himself inside his family residence in Ballina.

An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol, appointing an On-Scene Commander. Local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with several other Garda units, attended the scene. A cordon was put in place. A Media Blackout was also requested by An Garda Siochana.

After negotiations, the incident was peacefully resolved shortly before 11:30 p.m.

The male involved, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the North Western Region.

Investigations are ongoing.
