"This plan continues the delivery of vital healthcare projects across the country"
Major healthcare investment in Mayo

Mayo University Hospital is to undergo a significant expansion of its emergency department.

The publication of the Health Service Executive’s Capital Plan for 2025 by the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, brings a transformative investment of €12.58 million to County Mayo, as part of a record €1.33 billion allocated nationally for the development and enhancement of healthcare infrastructure, according to Senator Mark Duffy.

Welcoming the announcement, Senator Duffy said:

“Investment in our health service is essential, and today’s announcement, including the new ground floor Emergency Department extension and general upgrades to Mayo University Hospital as well as funding to support the development of the Daisy Lodge respite centre for children and funding to continue strategic plans to upgrade Ballina and Belmullet hospitals is a strong demonstration of this Government’s commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare in our communities. This is welcome news that will help bring healthcare services closer to home and better meet the needs of patients and families across Mayo."

Commenting on the publication of the HSE Capital Plan, Minister Carroll MacNeill said:

“I’m pleased to approve the publication of the HSE Capital Plan for 2025. This plan continues the delivery of vital healthcare projects across the country and supports the expansion of capacity and reform in how we deliver care.

"The scale of investment reflected in this plan underlines the Government’s focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and progressing toward universal, community-based care.”
