Local publicans offer reward for information following spate of burglaries

A group of publicans in Westport have offered a reward for information regarding the perpetrators of a series of burglaries at rural Mayo pubs last week.
Gardaí confirmed to the Western People they are investigating burglaries that occurred at four different premises in the early hours of last Friday morning.
“Gardaí are investigating burglaries at three premises in Tourmakeady and one in Ballyheane which occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 5,” said a spokesperson.
“A quantity of money was taken from all four premises. No arrests have been made. Investigations ongoing.”
In response, a group of Westport publicans have offered €10,000 for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators of these incidents.
Cllr Brendan Mulroy commended the publicans and said it is time local people stood together against ‘thugs’.
“It is a sad day when you do a day’s work, pay your taxes and make a difference to your community and the people and society around you, then thugs, and I can think of worse words to describe them, try to intimidate and rob you in your home or business.”
“It is time we all stood together on this.”
