Lego workshop brings joy to Ballina students

Students at St Dymphna’s School in Ballina were treated to an exciting and creative lego workshop recently, held as a special appreciation event to thank principal Maureen Quinn and the dedicated team at the school for their invaluable support during the Global Kitchen event last October, which they hosted as part of the Ballina Fringe Festival 2024.

The Global Kitchen, a vibrant and multicultural event, was made possible in large part thanks to the warmth, generosity, and hard work of St Dymphna’s staff and students, who graciously hosted the occasion. Their contribution helped foster a spirit of inclusion and community, welcoming people from all walks of life to celebrate food, culture, and connection.

As a heartfelt thank you, Mayo Volunteer Centre, in partnership with the organising team behind Ballina Fringe Festival, was delighted to give something back – and what better way than through that universal language of play and imagination: Lego. The workshop brought smiles, creativity, and collaboration to the classroom, with students fully immersed in building, designing, and dreaming.

“We are incredibly grateful to Maureen and everyone at St Dymphna’s for opening their doors and hearts to the Global Kitchen event,” said Kim Merrifield, Manager, Mayo Volunteer Centre. “This workshop was our small way of showing appreciation for their generous spirit. Seeing the joy on the students’ faces made it all the more worthwhile.”

The Lego Workshops, expertly delivered by Mixies Brixies, not only celebrated the school’s community spirit but also reinforced the values of inclusion, integration, partnership, gratitude, and creativity – values that are at the heart of both the Fringe Festival and the school.

The Global Kitchen is happening again in St Dymphna's as part of the 2025 Ballina Fringe Festival and Mayo Volunteer Centre are delighted to be working in partnership with the Ballina Fringe Festival on this event.
