Hundreds of Mayo students were among the 65,000 receiving their Leaving Cert results this Friday morning.
Results were released online at 10am and slightly earlier in schools, at 9.30am, with CAO offers due next Wednesday.
Nationally, results are down about 2% due to grade deflation, the first stage of phasing out grade inflation introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite this, the mood was high at many schools throughout the county on Friday morning. At St Gerald’s College in Castlebar, several eager students arrived to collect their results at 9.30am.
“They were delighted,” said Principal Shaun Burke. “It was a lovely experience to chat with them and to wish them well. Our students scored strongly in the STEM subjects, and three achieved 625 points, with 34% achieving over 500 points, and that is above the national average of 24%.”
