Knock welcomes Blessed Carlo relic

People queued in large numbers for the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis in Knock
There were large crowds of up to 1,500 people present to welcome the relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis to Knock Shrine on Friday.
The first millennial saint in waiting was born in London in 1991 to Italian parents, but he grew up in Milan where his family relocated when he was just a child.
Carlo created a website to catalog miracles and spread the word of God and he has already been dubbed the ‘patron saint of the internet’.
From a young age, he displayed an extraordinary devotion to his Catholic faith and attended Mass daily, regularly received the sacraments as well as developing a deep love for the Eucharist.
Fr Richard Gibbons said a lot of people would not have known a lot about Blessed Carlo Acutis up until the arrival of the relics in Ireland but the turnout was encouraging.
More than 1,500 pilgrims were present for the 12-midday Mass there was about 1,000 people in attendance for the 3pm service.
“The story is well worth diving into and looking at certainly for younger people,” Fr Richard said. “They all come for a whole raft of reasons such as healing, problems in their lives and it is very often something that helps people to cope.” The first class relic said to be a piece of Blessed Carlo’s pericardium, the fibrous membrane that encloses the heart and blood vessels.
The relic was accompanied by Archbishop Dominico Sorrentino of Assisi and Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo, a Vatican representative.
